Liverpool’s rising star defender, Jarell Quansah, has expressed his delight at being likened to the legendary Virgil van Dijk, highlighting the immense learning opportunity playing alongside the Dutch maestro presents.
Quansah, who has enjoyed a stellar season with the Reds, spoke glowingly of Van Dijk’s influence, stating, “It’s a massive compliment… What he’s been doing over the last five or 10 years has been unrivaled, especially in the Premier League.”
Acknowledging Van Dijk’s pivotal role in Liverpool’s recent successes, including their Premier League and Champions League triumphs, Quansah emphasized the invaluable learning experience of sharing the pitch with him.
“To be playing next to him is so good and I can learn so much from him,” he remarked.
Quansah highlighted Van Dijk’s intelligence and tactical acumen, noting how the seasoned defender guides his teammates both during matches and in post-game analysis sessions.
“He’s very clever… and knows where people have to be at the right time,” Quansah stated.
Describing Van Dijk’s mentoring approach, Quansah revealed, “There’s times where he’s constructive and says it how it is… and there’s times where… he needs to shout and make examples in different ways.”
Recognizing the need to develop his own vocal leadership skills, Quansah expressed his eagerness to absorb Van Dijk’s guidance.
“That (being more vocal) is something I need to learn… You can’t go much wrong if you just listen to what he’s saying,” he admitted.
As Liverpool continues its pursuit of silverware, Quansah’s partnership with Van Dijk represents a blend of experience and youth, with the promising defender poised to further enhance his skills under the tutelage of one of football’s most esteemed figures.
