Peter Crouch has claimed Liverpool would stand alone in English football if they manage to land Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak this summer.
The former Reds forward believes Isak’s arrival would set the club up for another era of dominance under incoming manager Arne Slot.
Isak, who was born in Sweden to Eritrean parents, has enjoyed a remarkable campaign with Newcastle, scoring 26 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.
His explosive form has drawn attention from several top clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester United.
Though the 25-year-old is under contract at St James’ Park until 2028, Newcastle may be open to offers should a substantial bid come in.
Liverpool, fresh off their Premier League title win following a 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham, are already planning reinforcements. With Darwin Nunez struggling—scoring just seven times in 43 outings—speculation has grown around the possibility of his departure, potentially to the Saudi Pro League.
Crouch, speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, expressed strong confidence in what Isak could bring to Anfield. “I’m biased obviously but I think if he goes (to Liverpool) there’s a period of dominance for the next two to three years with (Virgil) van Dijk and (Mohamed) Salah signing those deals,” he said.
“You get Isak too,” he added. “I don’t think there’s a club in that country that can compare to that. That’s the Alisson, Van Dijk situation. Look at how successful they were, I think they went above and beyond to get Van Dijk, and Alisson similarly.”
While Liverpool are yet to make an official approach, any move for Isak would likely require a major financial commitment. Should Nunez depart, however, funds could become available to lure the prolific Swede away from Tyneside—even if Newcastle qualify for next season’s Champions League.
