Liverpool weigh shock Alexander-Arnold homecoming in Madrid negotiations

Liverpool have entered advanced negotiations with Real Madrid over a possible £13m return for Trent Alexander-Arnold, only months after the England international left Anfield for the Spanish capital.

The proposed deal, reported by journalist Ben Jacobs, would see Liverpool pay €15m to bring back their former right-back, who has struggled to secure regular first-team football since joining Real Madrid.

Jacobs said: “Liverpool are in advance talks with Madrid for their former player Alexander Arnold, Liverpool will pay €15 million for the right-back who has not had many playing opportunities since joining the club.”

The report claims talks have reached an advanced stage, with Alexander-Arnold also keen to find a team where he can play more regularly. The 27-year-old has faced strong competition for the right-back position at Real Madrid and has consequently spent significant periods on the substitutes’ bench.

Real Madrid’s decision to strengthen that position with the signing of Netherlands international Denzel Dumfries has made Alexander-Arnold’s route into the starting line-up even more difficult. The arrival of Dumfries is understood to have increased uncertainty over the Englishman’s immediate future at the Bernabeu.

A return to Liverpool would represent a dramatic change in direction for a player who spent years progressing through the club’s academy before establishing himself as one of their most influential stars.
