Liverpool unlikely to activate Jarell Quansah buyback clause this summer

Liverpool is not planning to bring Jarell Quansah back to Anfield this summer, despite having a buyback clause in his deal with Bayer Leverkusen.

The 23-year-old centre-back left for Germany last July in a £35 million move, with a buyback option believed to be set at around £52 million and valid this summer.

Quansah has taken major strides in the Bundesliga, racking up 32 appearances, scoring four goals, and even earning his first England cap in November.

His progress has not gone unnoticed at Liverpool, but the club currently see him more as a long-term prospect rather than a solution for the upcoming season.

The Reds feel well covered at centre-back for now with talks ongoing with Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool are already committed to a £55 million deal, plus £5 million in add-ons, for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, while Giovanni Leoni is due to return from an ACL injury. Another central defender could be signed if Konate eventually moves on, but Quansah’s return is not anticipated before 2027.
