Liverpool have officially announced their squad to face Marseille in the UEFA Champions League, confirming the return of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah to the European stage.
Salah is back in the group after concluding his campaign with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and rejoining team training on Tuesday.
The Egyptian forward took part in Liverpool’s open training session ahead of Wednesday’s crucial clash at the Stade Vélodrome, which comes in the seventh round of the league phase of the Champions League. Salah had missed Liverpool’s last European outing away to Inter Milan earlier this month, following his strong post-match comments after a 3-3 draw against Leeds United.
Head coach Arne Slot has now restored Salah to his plans after a friendly conversation between the pair before the player left for AFCON. The winger has been named in a 20-man travelling list that departed from John Lennon Airport on Tuesday afternoon bound for France.
In defence, Ibrahima Konate did not travel with the squad, having skipped open training due to family reasons. Although he is already in France, his potential late joining of the team remains uncertain, and if he does not feature, Joe Gomez is expected to partner Virgil van Dijk at centre-back.
Liverpool still cannot fill the full 23-player matchday quota or a 12-man bench because of ongoing absences. The squad includes three goalkeepers: Alisson Becker, plus backups Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman, along with young talents Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni. Long-term absentees Alexander Isak, Conor Bradley, and Giovanni Leone remain unavailable.
Liverpool’s travelling squad to face Marseille consists of: Alisson, Gomez, Endo, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Salah, Chiesa, Jones, Gakpo, Ekitike, Mamardashvili, Robertson, Woodman, Frimpong, Gravenberch, Nyoni, and Ngumoha.
