Liverpool are prepared to step up their pursuit of Florian Wirtz by including young defender Jarell Quansah in a player-plus-cash deal, as they prepare a third bid for the Bayer Leverkusen star.
Quansah, of Ghanaian descent, is being offered as part of Liverpool’s renewed approach after two previous bids for Wirtz were rejected.
The 22-year-old centre-back, who enjoyed a breakthrough season at Anfield, is seen as a valuable bargaining chip in the Reds’ attempt to land the highly-rated Germany international.
According to reports from Kicker, Liverpool’s initial proposal of €100 million plus €20 million in add-ons was rebuffed by Leverkusen.
The Merseyside club returned with a straight €120 million offer, but that too was turned down by the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions.
Leverkusen are understood to be holding firm on a valuation of €150 million for the 21-year-old midfielder, who played a pivotal role in their historic unbeaten domestic campaign under Xabi Alonso.
With negotiations ongoing, Liverpool are considering a package that includes Quansah and midfielder Harvey Elliott in a bid to close the gap between their offer and Leverkusen’s asking price.
Leverkusen’s managing director Simon Rolfes acknowledged interest from Liverpool but remained coy about a potential transfer.
“It’s currently an open subject with Florian. There is concrete interest from Liverpool, but there’s no more to say right now. Florian is our player,” Rolfes said.
Wirtz, one of the most sought-after young talents in Europe, is also on the radar of several top clubs, but Liverpool are reportedly the most aggressive in their pursuit.
The Reds are hoping that a more creative offer, involving two promising players and cash, will finally persuade Leverkusen to do business ahead of the 2025–26 season.
