Liverpool are increasingly concerned that Alexander Isak may have suffered a broken leg during Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

The striker was forced off after a painful collision moments after scoring, casting a shadow over an otherwise significant win in north London.

The Swedish international of Eritrean descent who joined Liverpool for a club-record fee in the summer, was injured while converting Florian Wirtz’s pass in the 56th minute.

As he struck the ball, a sliding challenge from Micky van de Ven caught him awkwardly, leaving him grounded and unable to join the celebrations.

Medical staff immediately attended to the 26-year-old, who required assistance to leave the pitch before being replaced by Jeremie Frimpong.

Liverpool’s concern centres on damage to Isak’s lower leg, with early fears suggesting an injury that could sideline him for several months.

The Athletic reported that club officials were worried Isak had sustained a serious leg injury, pending further assessment.
Any prolonged absence would represent a major setback for both the player and Liverpool, given the scale of the investment and expectations attached to him.

Saturday’s goal was only Isak’s second in the Premier League since his move from Newcastle United, although his overall contribution has been steadily improving.
He has started six league matches and featured three times in the Champions League, as he adapts to new demands at Anfield.

By contrast, fellow summer arrival Hugo Ekitike has settled quicker, underlined by his winning goal against nine-man Tottenham after Isak’s withdrawal.
Liverpool’s attacking plans could be disrupted significantly if Isak faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

Head coach Arne Slot struck a cautiously optimistic tone after the match, praising Isak’s involvement while awaiting medical clarity.
“I haven’t spoken to him about it yet but it’s a good thing he scored, a good goal assisted by Florian Wirtz,” Slot said.

“I said players are getting better, the team is getting better.
It wasn’t perfect today, especially the last 10 minutes but we pick up points and are developing in a way I want to see.

“That’s what we’d like to see happening a lot. A good finish, a good pass. Let’s not be too negative yet. We don’t know yet, let’s hope he is back with us soon.”
