Liverpool is on the verge of completing a major summer signing, with an outline agreement in place to bring French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt to Anfield.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the deal could be finalised within days.
Should all performance-related add-ons be triggered, the transfer would break Frankfurt’s sales record, eclipsing the €95 million fee received for Randal Kolo Muani.
Ekitike, who notched 22 goals and 12 assists last season, has become one of the most sought-after young forwards in Europe. His form in Germany has caught the attention of top clubs, but it’s Liverpool who now lead the race for his signature.
Personal terms are reportedly not expected to be a hurdle, with Ekitike previously rejecting an offer from Newcastle United, showing clear intent to join a more competitive side.
While Liverpool had also made enquiries about Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, the Magpies have insisted he is not for sale. With Ekitike’s move progressing smoothly, Liverpool look set to secure a key attacking option for the new season.
