Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has lavished praise on Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian’s influential return in the Reds’ UEFA Champions League victory over Olympique Marseille.
Salah was restored to the matchday squad shortly after concluding his Africa Cup of Nations campaign, and wasted little time reminding fans of his importance despite limited time back at the club.
Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, an own goal by Marseille goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli and a late strike from Cody Gakpo sealed a comfortable win for Liverpool on the night.
Speaking after the match, Slot highlighted Salah’s professionalism and physical condition following his extended international duty.
“It says a lot about how big a professional he [Salah] is that he can be away for more than a month with a different team and be so fit to play 90 minutes for us after one day of training,” he said.
“He was so close to a goal. It would usually be a goal from him, but it didn’t harm us because we scored three,” he added.
Liverpool will now turn their attention back to domestic action after last weekend’s Premier League setback against Burnley, with Salah expected to play a key role as the Reds prepare to face AFC Bournemouth.
