Liverpool have approached Newcastle United over a potential deal for Alexander Isak as they intensify efforts to strengthen their forward line this summer.
Isak, who is of Eritrean descent, has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time, with the club now exploring the possibility of signing him in a deal estimated at around £120 million.
While no formal bid has been submitted, the Reds have expressed their interest to Newcastle, who maintain that the 25-year-old forward is not for sale.
The approach comes as Liverpool seek to add a high-profile No. 9 following the tragic death of Diogo Jota earlier this month.
The Merseyside club are said to be prioritising a new striker despite the earlier club-record signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, who arrived for an initial £100 million plus add-ons.
Isak enjoyed a standout season in 2024/25, scoring 27 goals in 42 matches as Newcastle secured Champions League football with a fifth-place finish in the Premier League.
Since joining from Real Sociedad in 2022, the Swede has netted 62 goals in 109 appearances.
While Liverpool have also considered Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike and remain open to Federico Chiesa, their primary attention appears focused on Isak.
Meanwhile, Colombian winger Luis Diaz is pushing for a move, with Bayern Munich having a €67.5 million bid rejected earlier this week.
Newcastle, aware of interest in Isak, are targeting Ekitike as a potential replacement but have yet to finalise terms with either Eintracht or the French striker.
With three years left on Isak’s contract, Newcastle hold a strong position, but Liverpool’s pursuit signals intent to reshape their attack ahead of the new campaign.
