Lioncelles face crucial showdown with Ghana in U20 Women's World Cup qualifiers

The Senegal women’s under-20 football team is set to clash with Ghana in the fourth and penultimate round of qualifiers for the upcoming U20 Women’s World Cup, known as the Elimi-Mondial Feminin.

The highly anticipated encounters are scheduled to take place on January 13 and 21, marking a crucial step for both teams aspiring to secure a spot in the prestigious tournament to be held in Colombia later this year.

In their quest to make history for Senegalese women’s football, the Lioncelles, as they are affectionately known, face a formidable opponent in Ghana.

The upcoming matches promise intense competition and strategic gameplay as both teams vie for the coveted opportunity to advance to the final phase of the U20 Women’s World Cup.

The opening fixture is slated for January 13 at the Lat-Dior Stadium in Thiès, Senegal, with kickoff scheduled for 5:00 p.m. GMT.

Following this crucial home encounter, the Lioncelles will embark on a challenging away fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Ghana, on January 21, with the match set to commence at 4:00 p.m. GMT.

This stage of the qualifiers features sixteen teams, each eyeing a spot in the final eight to progress to the fifth and decisive qualifying round.

The winners of the fifth round matches will earn the right to represent Africa in the U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

From a pool of thirty-five African teams that participated in the qualifiers, only four nations will ultimately secure a place in the highly anticipated tournament.

The football community eagerly awaits these pivotal clashes, recognizing the significance of the upcoming matches in shaping the destiny of the Lioncelles on the international stage.
