Idrissa Gueye Confident Ahead of Lille’s Europa League Clash with Everton
Senegalese midfielder Idrissa Gueye shared his thoughts ahead of Lille’s crucial Europa League group stage match against Everton at Goodison Park. Speaking to L’Equipe, Gueye acknowledged the difficulty of the challenge but remained optimistic.
“They are very strong technically and make few mistakes. It is very difficult to take the ball from them, which means they have to run more, constantly compensate with positioning. We also feel that they like duels,” said the 25-year-old midfielder.
Despite Everton’s strengths, Gueye believes Lille can exploit opportunities, especially at home:
“At home, they will not calculate and that can open up spaces for our attackers who are fast. In any case, there is no way we can lose tonight, because if they secure their qualification, it will be difficult for us afterwards.”
Gueye emphasized the importance of vigilance but expressed confidence in his team’s ability to deliver:
“We will have to be vigilant but if we repeat the same match as in the first leg, it should be fine… I believe in it. We are capable of achieving great things against big teams and Everton is one of them.”
Lille will look to Gueye and the rest of their squad to rise to the occasion and secure a positive result in this pivotal Europa League fixture.
