Lille central defender Aurélien Chedjou has shared his reflections and regrets regarding the last transfer window. In an interview with the sports daily L’Équipe, Chedjou discussed his progression, acknowledging that he has proven himself in Ligue 1 and addressed certain flaws in his game.
Chedjou emphasized his improvement and stated that his main issue was concentration, a factor he has actively worked on. He recognized that lapses in concentration, even in seemingly innocuous situations, could lead to dangerous goals or actions. Chedjou’s self-awareness and dedication to addressing weaknesses have contributed to his progress on the field.
Regarding the last transfer window, Chedjou expressed disappointment but recognized the need for self-reflection. He acknowledged that he did not have the season he needed the previous year. Despite considering leaving Lille in the summer, the club approached him and informed him that there was no potential replacement if he left. After discussions, an agreement was reached, and Chedjou stayed at Lille.
Looking ahead to the match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Chedjou, at 27 years old, is expected to play a key role. He mentioned the importance of at least securing a spot in the Europa League for Lille and expressed the team’s ambition to perform well in the Champions League.
Chedjou stated, “We must at least hang on to the Europa League… We will have to take three points or at least one point somewhere.” Despite criticism, he asserted that Lille did not steal anyone’s place in the Champions League and believes the team has the required level to compete in the competition.
