Esperance Sportive de Tunis secured the national football championship title over the weekend with a victory on the 28th matchday. They defeated US Monastirienne with a narrow scoreline of 1-0, with the decisive goal coming from Houcine Ragued.
With 65 points accumulated, EST now holds an unassailable lead over their closest pursuer, CS Sfaxien, who sits at 56 points. This marks Esperance’s 26th championship title, tying the record previously held by Club Sportif Sfaxien. CS Sfaxien, despite drawing with Stade Tunisien (1-1), will join Esperance in the Champions League for the next season.
For Esperance coach Ruud Krol, this championship victory marks his second consecutive title, having led CS Sfaxien to victory in the previous season. The management of the newly crowned Tunisian champions has reportedly promised a bonus of 15,000 dinars or 4,414,280 FCFA to each player as a reward for their achievement.
