Olympique de Marseille heads to Reims on Friday to kick off the 29th day of Ligue 1. Their recent loss at the Vélodrome against Nice (0-1) has pushed them further away from securing a place in the next Champions League. With a nine-point gap from the podium, Marseille faces a challenge to achieve their objective and secure a European place. José Anigo’s team is now entering a crucial phase of the season.
The upcoming match against Reims presents a significant test for Marseille. However, the team’s performance has been inconsistent throughout the season, a point noted by André Ayew during a press conference. The Ghanaian international attributed Marseille’s current situation to a lack of regularity.
“In every team, there are disagreements, but it seems to be more amplified at OM. These are not necessarily problems; the key is to maintain the desire to succeed. Regardless of the coach, if the players fail to execute, victory becomes elusive. Our inconsistency is evident; at times, we appear settled, but then face complications. We must strive for consistency and composure to achieve better results. Sometimes, we demonstrate unity and challenge the top teams in the league, while other times, we unexpectedly falter against lower-ranked opponents, which is unacceptable,” Ayew emphasized.
