The conclusion of the group stage in the Tunisian League 1 championship has stirred controversy, particularly surrounding the battle for the second spot in the play-offs within Group A. This dispute has taken a serious turn with allegations of attempted corruption coming to light.
The secretary-general of the African Club took matters into his own hands on Monday by presenting himself at the Federation headquarters armed with a recording of a telephone conversation involving players and representatives from Bizertin Athletic Club and Kaitouanaise Sports Youth. The recording allegedly suggests an attempt to influence JSK to underperform in their face-off against Bizertin Athletic Club in exchange for a sum of money. (JSK ultimately lost the match 0-2).
The recorded evidence has been handed over to the Federation and is expected to be forwarded to the public prosecutor for further investigation.
In response to the corruption accusations, JSK is fighting back through its vice-president, Fathi Ghedira. According to GlobalNet, Ghedira stated on a Tunisian radio program that officials from the African Club of Tunis had proposed an increase in bonus payments to JSK players if they emerged victorious in the same match that is now under scrutiny.
