In a surprising twist on the 36th matchday of Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was defeated 1-2 by Stade Rennais at the Parc des Princes. Ezequiel Lavezzi had given PSG an early lead with a goal in the 3rd minute, but Rennes quickly responded with goals from Foued Kadir (23rd) and Paul-Georges Ntep (27th).
This loss for PSG came just days after Rennes had suffered defeat in the Coupe de France final, but the win secured their survival in Ligue 1 for next season.
Kadir, speaking after the match, reflected on the team’s efforts: “We had to be there against this Paris team. We fought hard to stay up. We conceded the first goal but quickly recovered. Technically, they were stronger than us, but we had a great spirit. It’s a real shame to have missed out on the final. Now we have to look ahead.”
This victory has ensured Rennes’ place in the French top flight for the upcoming season, while PSG’s focus will likely shift to securing the Ligue 1 title.
