There has been a significant development regarding the 75% tax issue, particularly concerning AS Monaco. In a notable turnaround, it has been decided that the measure will not be applied to the football club.
On Friday, deputies reconsidered their stance on applying the tax to companies affiliated with French federations but not based in France, a situation directly impacting AS Monaco. The Minister of the Budget called for a second deliberation, seeking to reject an amendment that had been voted on during the night between Thursday and Friday as part of the new reading of the finance bill for 2014.
Bernard Cazeneuve, who voted for the removal of the amendment by a margin of 12 votes to eight, expressed concerns about the potential unconstitutionality of the passed measure. Despite this, he affirmed his determination to achieve the objective of equal treatment. As a result of these developments, AS Monaco will be exempt from the French tax, sparing the club from the 75% tax that will affect most Ligue 1 clubs.
In mid-November, a strike by Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs, protesting against the 75% tax imposed by the French government, was postponed following the initial stages of mediation led by Jean Galvany, a PS deputy.
