Libyan side Al Ittihad SC tables €75,000 monthly salary before Rulani Mokwena
Libyan giants Al Ittihad SC are reportedly prepared to offer South African coach Rulani Mokwena a monthly salary of €75,000 as they intensify efforts to appoint him as their next head coach.
The Tripoli-based club has expressed strong interest in bringing the 39-year-old tactician on board. According to the club’s executive director, Abdelmajid Saleh, discussions have already been initiated with Algerian side MC Alger, where Mokwena is currently under contract.
Saleh revealed that the talks were positive and that personal terms had already been agreed with the coach. However, the Libyan outfit is still waiting for clarity regarding Mokwena’s situation with the Algerian club.
Recent developments in Algeria suggest the move may not be straightforward. Reports indicate that Mohamed Hakim Hadj Redjem recently held a meeting with Mokwena to reassure him of the club’s backing and urged him to remain with the team until at least the end of the current season.
This has created uncertainty over the coach’s immediate future. Media reports in Libya suggest Al Ittihad expect Mokwena to arrive soon, while sources in Algeria maintain that the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss could stay on and complete the 2025/26 campaign with MC Alger.
Despite the uncertainty, reports in Algeria claim Al Ittihad have tabled a lucrative offer worth around €75,000 per month as they seek to lure Mokwena to replace Khaled Ben Yahia. For now, however, the final decision rests on how the situation unfolds in the coming weeks.
