Libya international Moatasem Al-Musrati is expected to depart AS Monaco at the end of the season following the expiration of his contract.
The 29-year-old experienced midfielder joined the Ligue 1 giants in the January transfer window with a purchase option, making 10 appearances, scoring one goal and delivering an assist in the recently concluded Ligue 1 campaign.
In all competitions, he managed 36 appearances, scoring three goals and providing an assist across the period.
With his loan deal expiring in June 2025, Monaco has decided not to make the deal permanent. Monaco opted to sign the Libya international following Jordan Henderson’s failed move from Ajax.
However, Monaco’s CEO, Scuro, has confirmed that the deal will not be made permanent.
“We communicated that we are not going to apply the buy option,” he said.
“He scored one of our most important goals of the season but clearly, we are looking for a different profile of player. He helped us a lot, off the pitch too. There are only positive things to say, but it is just a technical decision. We knew that he was a holding No.6. Our play style requires more dynamism. We expected to help him develop to be this, but for different reasons, it didn’t happen as we needed.”
Moatasem Al-Musrati has 40 appearances for Libya, scoring two goals since his debut in 2014.
