Liberian forward Augustine Otu has been named in coach Thomas Kojo’s 24-man squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Tunisia and São Tomé-et-Príncipe.
The Lone Stars will host Tunisia at the SKD Sports Complex on March 19 before facing São Tomé-et-Príncipe at the same venue on March 24. Both matches are scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
Otu Earns National Team Recall
Otu’s inclusion marks his return to the national team after a nearly five-year absence. The 26-year-old, currently in fine form for Egyptian club Tersana SC, has netted 11 goals this season, just one shy of the league’s top scorer.
His prolific performances convinced Kojo to reinstate him for the crucial qualifiers.
The striker made his international debut in September 2019 in a friendly against Botswana and later featured against Egypt.
Now, he has another opportunity to make an impact as Liberia aims to strengthen its World Cup qualifying campaign.
New Faces in the Squad
Kojo has selected a mix of domestic and foreign-based players, with 13 expatriates and 11 homegrown talents making the cut.
Among the fresh call-ups are Nicholas Andrews, Josiah Cea, Morris Konneh, and Bryan Farkarlun, all set for their senior national team debuts.
Another notable inclusion is LISCR FC midfielder Jeygbey Konneh. Initially named in the preliminary 36-man squad, Konneh impressed during recent performances, securing his place in the final selection.
Key Absences
The squad, however, will be without some key players. Midfielder Mo Sangaré and forward Brem M. Soumaoro were not included in the final list, while Mohamed Kamara opted out due to personal reasons.
