Rangers defender Leon Balogun has voiced his frustration following his team’s disappointing 2-1 loss to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the Nigerian international lamented Rangers’ sluggish start and inconsistent performances, which he believes are costing them crucial points.
Disjointed start proves costly
Rangers, who had delivered an impressive performance against Kilmarnock in their previous match, struggled to maintain that momentum at Ibrox.
Balogun admitted that the team lacked urgency in the opening stages, allowing Motherwell to gain an early foothold.
“We approach every game with a plan, but we started too slowly, without urgency or intensity,” Balogun explained. “It was frustrating because we knew how important it was to build on our last performance, yet we couldn’t match the required intensity.”
Motherwell capitalized on Rangers’ sluggish start, exposing gaps in the defence and taking control of the game.
Although the home side attempted to rally in the second half, the damage had already been done.
Dressing room discontent
Balogun painted a sombre picture of the post-match atmosphere, describing the mood in the dressing room as “flat.”
He noted that Rangers’ inability to string together consistent performances was taking a toll on the squad.
The disappointment is palpable,” he said. When you start a home game like that, especially after a good result in the previous match, the reaction from the crowd is inevitable.
It’s frustrating because we keep saying we need to bounce back, but how many times do we have to say it?
Call for higher standards
The experienced centre-back was particularly critical of the team’s recurring individual errors, stressing that such lapses must be addressed if Rangers hope to stay competitive in the title race.
It hurts to be so far from consistency,” Balogun added. “There isn’t much to say other than that we need to correct ourselves.
We must raise our standards because, at this level, inconsistency will cost us dearly.
Pressure mounts on rangers
With the defeat, Rangers missed an opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Celtic.
The result has put additional pressure on manager Philippe Clement, who must now find a way to restore confidence and stability within the squad.
Rangers will need a swift response in their next fixture, with Balogun and his teammates fully aware that any further slip-ups could severely dent their ambitions for the season.
