Mario Lemina Open to Gabon, But Still Focused on France
Mario Lemina’s standout performance in Olympique de Marseille’s recent victory over Girondins de Bordeaux has not only caught the attention of French football fans but also heightened Gabon’s interest in the young midfielder.
The 21-year-old Lemina, who has been in impressive form this season with 8 appearances and 1 goal in Ligue 1, is currently part of the French U-21 squad. However, the former Lorient player has admitted that while his current preference is to represent France, he has not ruled out the possibility of playing for Gabon, the country of his father.
In an interview with RMC, Lemina revealed, “For the moment, my wish is to play for the French team. But I haven’t said no to Gabon either. It will depend on a lot of things, family… But for the moment, I’m giving everything for France. I want to leave again with the Espoirs.”
While Lemina remains committed to his French aspirations, his open-minded approach leaves the door ajar for a potential switch to the Gabon national team in the future, depending on various factors, including personal and family considerations.
