RB Leipzig have officially completed the signing of Ivorian winger Yan Diomande, with the club’s managing director Marcel Schäfer praising the youngster’s exceptional qualities following the €20 million deal.
Diomande, who arrives from Spanish side Leganés, becomes the latest exciting addition to the Bundesliga club’s youthful project under new head coach Ole Werner.
The 18-year-old impressed in LaLiga with two goals and one assist in 10 appearances during the second half of the 2024/25 season.
Schäfer was full of admiration for the Ivorian’s attributes: “He’s a left winger with outstanding speed, can dribble, is very athletic and can finish.
“He also never gives up the ball and works for the team. Despite all the excitement, we should give Yan enough time to settle into life in Leipzig and the Bundesliga.”
Born in Abidjan in 2006, Diomande relocated to the United States at an early age and trained at the DME Academy in Florida.
He rose to prominence with affiliate club AS Frenzi, helping them to an undefeated season and league title in 2023.
After a short trial with Rangers in Scotland in late 2023, Diomande signed his first professional contract with Leganés in November 2024.
He made his LaLiga debut as a substitute against Real Madrid in March 2025 and earned his first start shortly after in a fixture against Barcelona.
The teenager then featured in seven consecutive matches, playing a pivotal role during one of Leganés’ strongest runs of the campaign, where they lost just two of those fixtures and won three of their final four games.
