Leicester City manager Steve Cooper has expressed deep disappointment following the news that Fatawu Issahaku will miss the remainder of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The 19-year-old winger sustained the injury while representing Ghana in their recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.
The setback has necessitated surgery, which will keep Issahaku sidelined for an estimated six to nine months, marking a significant loss for both the player and his club.
It’s not good; it’s a serious injury, Cooper admitted.
He’s had an ACL injury which rules him out for the rest of the season.
It’s a real blow, first and foremost for him.
He’s young, and while ACL injuries are not uncommon in football, it’s tough when it happens at such a crucial stage in a young player’s career.
Cooper emphasized the importance of supporting Issahaku through his recovery process.
We’ve very much now got to support him in every way we can to ensure his rehab is as smooth and productive as possible.
We hope he can return stronger, both as a player and a person, he said.
Issahaku had become an integral part of Leicester’s squad since joining last season, showing immense potential in his Premier League journey.
Cooper praised the winger’s contributions, calling him a “big talent” and highlighting the excitement surrounding his development.
It’s difficult news, but now we need to come together to support him.
He’s an exciting young player with so much potential.
While every player his age has plenty to learn, there’s a lot to look forward to with him,” Cooper added.
This injury is only a pause. With the mentality he has, I have no doubt he’ll come back stronger.”
Leicester City now faces the challenge of navigating the season without one of their promising young stars.
Their first test comes on Saturday, with a Premier League clash against Chelsea.
