Former Newcastle United star Warren Barton is not sure the club will cash in on Sweden international of Eritrean descent Alexander Isak.
Isak has become one of the standout revelations of 2024 in the English Premier League, with the 25-year-old attacker scoring 24 goals and delivering 6 assists from 36 appearances.
The enterprising attacker has performed admirably and has emerged as a top transfer target for several clubs including Barcelona.
“I don’t think they want to sell him,” Barton said. “Whatever conversations I’ve had with the football club and the owners have been there is a plan, and we are building something.
If you do let him go, you’ve got to spend big money to get that sort of quality in. We want to build on what we’ve got.
But in terms of a fee, we are looking at £150 to £200 million.
He’s a special player, and goals are at a premium, so it’s going to have to be close to a world record to sell him, but I don’t see that happening.” Barton noted.
Isak’s current contract with Newcastle United is expected to expire in the summer of 2028.
