Lebohang Mabotja leaves Marumo Gallants and targets new Betway Premiership move

Lebohang Mabotja has confirmed that he has left Marumo Gallants after the club decided not to renew his contract.

The 34-year-old left-back is now seeking a new team and says he is open to continuing his career in either the Betway Premiership or the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Mabotja, who recently parted ways with Gallants, told Soccer Laduma that he is currently available after his spell with the club came to an end.

“Yes I’m free. They didn’t renew my contract,” Mabotja tells this publication.

“I’m looking in both the Betway Premiership and Motsepe Foundation Championship. I’m confident something will come up soon,” he added.

The defender made 20 appearances in the Betway Premiership last season as Marumo Gallants secured their top-flight status and avoided relegation.

Although his contract has now expired, Mabotja is hopeful of finding a new club soon. He has not limited his search to South Africa’s top division and is also prepared to join a side competing in the second tier.

His departure brings an end to his time with Marumo Gallants, also known as Bahlabane Ba Ntwa. The club’s decision not to extend his deal has left him looking for the next stage of his playing career.

Mabotja has previous experience with Magesi and Sekhukhune United, among other clubs. His most recent campaign included a regular role in Gallants’ fight to remain in the Betway Premiership, with his 20 league appearances contributing to the team’s successful bid to avoid relegation.

For now, the veteran defender remains without a club but is confident that an opportunity will emerge in either of the country’s two main professional divisions.

His immediate priority is therefore to secure a new contract, whether that is with another Betway Premiership team or a club in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
