Kaizer Chiefs CAF Confederation Cup tie will not be broadcast

Kaizer Chiefs’ CAF Confederation Cup match against Red Arrows will not be shown live on any platform, the club has confirmed to IOL Sport.

The first leg of the second preliminary-round tie will be played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm. Supporters will therefore have to rely on match updates rather than live television coverage as Amakhosi begin their bid to reach the Confederation Cup group stages.

The lack of a broadcast will be particularly disappointing for Chiefs fans unable to travel to Zambia. The club’s continental campaign will continue out of sight for supporters watching from South Africa and elsewhere.

Chiefs will be seeking a positive result against the Zambian side to take into the return fixture. The second leg is scheduled for Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Friday, 23 October.

Although Amakhosi’s match will not be available to watch, South African football supporters will have another local club to follow on free-to-air television the following day.

Durban City, who are also competing in the Confederation Cup, are scheduled to appear on SABC 1 tomorrow. Their match will provide an alternative fixture for viewers over the weekend.

The contrasting arrangements underline the different levels of broadcast access for South African clubs involved in domestic and continental competition.

For Chiefs, the priority will be to produce a strong away performance in Ndola and secure an advantage for the return leg, despite their supporters being unable to watch the match live.
