Lebohang Maboe ruled out for Bafana Bafana as Orlando Pirates’ Tshepang Moremi is called up

Lebohang Maboe has been ruled out of Bafana Bafana’s current camp and this FIFA window because of an ankle injury, with Orlando Pirates midfielder Tshepang Moremi called up as his replacement.

Maboe reported for international duty carrying ankle discomfort after being substituted at half-time during Kaizer Chiefs’ draw with Golden Arrows on Sunday.

The 32-year-old was monitored by Kaizer Chiefs before undergoing further assessment after joining the national team camp in Johannesburg.

Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane said on Monday that Maboe had a persistent ankle problem which required medical attention.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has since confirmed that the midfielder has withdrawn from the squad.

“He twisted his ankle while playing for Kaizer Chiefs and after undergoing a scan, he will be ruled out from the current camp and this FIFA window,” Bafana doctor Dr Tshepo Molobi told SAFA.

With Maboe unavailable, Mosimane has sent a call-up letter to Orlando Pirates for Moremi.
