Renato Sanches: Botafogo linked with move for Portugal midfielder
Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches, currently without a club, is being linked with a move to Brazilian Serie A side Botafogo.
The 29-year-old left Paris St-Germain on 1 September 2026 and is now the subject of transfer speculation involving the Rio de Janeiro club. Sanches has not made a Ligue 1 appearance this season, while his record also shows no involvement in the 2026-27 Trophee des Champions or UEFA Super Cup.
Sanches spent the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Panathinaikos from PSG, returning to the French club on 30 June before departing in September. He had joined PSG from Lille in August 2022 after helping Lille win the French title in 2020-21.
The central midfielder began his senior career at Benfica and moved to Bayern Munich in 2016 after winning the Portuguese league. He was part of Portugal’s European Championship-winning side that year and was also named the Golden Boy.
Sanches has won four German league titles with Bayern, as well as two French championships during his career. His current market value is listed at €1.5m.
Botafogo’s reported interest would represent a move to Brazil’s top flight for a player whose recent club career has included spells with PSG, Panathinaikos, Benfica, Lille and Bayern Munich. There is no reported transfer fee or probability attached to the rumour, and Sanches remains without a club.
