Morocco international Achraf Hakimi has opened up about his departure from Real Madrid, saying it was not his decision.
The highly-rated defender left the Spanish giants in 2020 to join Inter Milan before securing a move to Paris Saint Germain the following year.
Since joining the Frecnh giants, Hakimi has established himself as a key member of the team, contributing significantly towards the club’s recent success.
Hakimi was in action when PSG thumped Real Madrid in the semifinals of the FIFA Club World Cup to secure a place in the final.
Explaining his exit from Madrid after the game, Hakimi stressed that the decision was not in his own hands.
“I did not make the decision to leave Real Madrid,” indicating that his departure from the team was not of his own free will, but rather a decision made by the management or technical staff at the time.
The Moroccan international spoke about his current form with Paris Saint-Germain, explaining: “I’m happy here because they let me do what I love: play and have fun. The coach has given me the confidence and freedom to sometimes advance into midfield, and also to return to defense, which suits my style.”
Hakimi concluded his statements by saying: “Honestly, I am very happy with this team, and I enjoy every moment I play with them”
