Leandre Tawamba joins Al Tai SC, eyes promotion to Saudi Pro League
Cameroonian striker Leandre Tawamba has officially joined Al Tai SC, a club in Saudi Arabia’s second division. The 34-year-old forward, who previously played for Al Okhdood, is eager to help his new team return to the top tier of Saudi football, the Saudi Pro League.
Tawamba made his ambitions clear in a video interview with 237Foot, where he discussed his goals for the upcoming season.
“I am making this video just to announce to Cameroonians that I have signed with Al Tai in Saudi Arabia, second division,” Tawamba said.
“The objective of this signing is to promote the club to the Saudi Pro League.
Because last season, I played against this club in the last match of the championship, and my goal sent them to D1 [the Saudi First Division League, which is equivalent to the second division in Saudi Arabia].”
Reflecting on his decision to join Al Tai, the Cameroonian international expressed his confidence in the team’s potential and his determination to help them succeed.
“They decided to sign me so that I can help them get back to the Saudi Pro League,” he explained.
Tawamba also took a moment to thank his supporters, adding, “Thank you for the opportunity to allow me to speak to Cameroonians.
Good evening and thank you for the support you give me.”
Tawamba’s move to Al Tai comes after a season with Al Okhdood, where he had a notable presence on the pitch.
The Yaoundé-born striker managed to score five goals and provide three assists in 29 matches during the previous season.
His performances contributed to his current market value of 700,000 euros, according to Transfermarkt, a respected football valuation site.
Al Tai SC, currently competing in the Saudi First Division League, hopes Tawamba’s experience and skills will boost their chances of securing promotion to the top league.
Having previously played against Al Tai, Tawamba has first-hand knowledge of the team’s strengths and weaknesses, making him an asset to their squad.
In a key match soon approaching, Al Tai will face off against Al Ain Al Atawlah in the third round of the Saudi D2 championship.
This fixture will be critical in the team’s quest to regain their status in the Pro League, with fans eagerly awaiting the outcome.
The stakes are high, and bookmakers have already set the odds for the match: Al Tai SC is priced at 2.97 for a win, while a draw stands at 3.24. Al Ain Al Atawlah, considered the slight favorite, is placed at 2.22 for a victory.
As Tawamba embarks on this new chapter with Al Tai, the football community in Cameroon and Saudi Arabia will be watching closely to see if his leadership and goal-scoring prowess can help propel the team back into the spotlight of Saudi football’s elite competition.
