Officials of the Egyptian Professional Football League Association have revealed that the decision to organize the competition into 4 groups instead of 3 stems from the principle of equal opportunity, following the withdrawal of Al Ahly and Zamalek from the tournament this season.
League Association’s Motto
League officials explained that with the withdrawal of Al Ahly and Zamalek, the number of teams has been reduced to 16.
Consequently, under the original plan of organizing the tournament into 3 groups, there would be two groups of 4 teams each and one group consisting of 6 teams.
It was initially proposed that the top team from each group would qualify from the three groups, along with the best second-placed team.
However, this setup would not ensure equal opportunities, as two groups would play 4 matches each while one group would play 5 matches.
This is the primary reason behind organizing the tournament into 4 groups, each containing 4 teams.
The move aims to ensure fairness and maintain the integrity of the competition, aligning with the values upheld by the League Association.
By providing equal opportunities to all participating teams, the tournament endeavors to showcase the talent and competitive spirit of Egyptian football on a level playing field.
