Leadership vacuum deepens as no candidate steps forward for Club Sportif Sfaxien presidency

Club Sportif Sfaxien remains without a new leader after the club’s electoral commission confirmed that no candidates submitted applications for the presidency ahead of the 2025–2027 mandate.

The announcement, made by the club’s independent elections commission, leaves the Tunisian side in a continuing state of administrative uncertainty.

Despite weeks of anticipation and appeals for interested individuals to come forward, no names were formally registered before the nomination deadline.

As a result, the club’s provisional steering committee will remain in charge, extending its interim mandate until further notice.

The committee, which had been tasked with overseeing day-to-day operations and ensuring institutional stability, now faces the challenge of guiding the club through a period of leadership stagnation.

Founded in 1928, Club Sportif Sfaxien is one of Tunisia’s most decorated football institutions, boasting multiple domestic league titles and a rich history in continental competitions.

However, the current administrative impasse has raised concerns among supporters and stakeholders about the club’s direction, both on and off the pitch.

The lack of candidates is being interpreted as a sign of deep-rooted challenges within the club’s governance structure and financial situation.

While the elections commission did not provide specific reasons for the absence of contenders, observers suggest that the combination of internal divisions and economic difficulties may have discouraged potential applicants.

The ongoing leadership vacuum could complicate long-term planning, including player recruitment, technical staff appointments, and the financial reorganisation needed to stabilise the club.

For now, the steering committee must maintain operations while awaiting either a renewed electoral process or a decision from the governing bodies on how to proceed.

In its brief statement, the commission reiterated that “no candidate has put themselves forward for the presidency for the 2025–2027 term,” confirming that the nomination window has officially closed.

The outcome means that Club Sportif Sfaxien remains under interim management for the foreseeable future, with uncertainty surrounding when a permanent leadership team will finally take charge.

The situation underscores a period of transition for one of Tunisia’s most historic football clubs — one that continues to seek both administrative stability and a return to its former competitive strength.
