David Datro Fofana linked with Ligue 1 move as Le Mans open talks
Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana could be set for another move in France, with newly promoted Ligue 1 side Le Mans showing interest in the Ivorian striker following his return from a loan spell at Racing Club de Strasbourg.
Fofana has rejoined Chelsea after spending the second half of the season on loan at Strasbourg, where he struggled to make a significant impact.
The 23-year-old made only nine appearances and registered a single assist, a return that did not convince the French club to pursue a permanent deal or extend his stay.
Despite that setback, his career could remain in Ligue 1, as Le Mans are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing him in ahead of their return to France’s top division.
The club, fresh from promotion, are said to view him as a potential addition to strengthen their attacking options as they prepare for a more demanding campaign.
Although Fofana has experienced limited game time in recent seasons, Le Mans believe his physical profile and prior experience in European football could help bolster their squad depth.
The move is also being considered within the context of Chelsea’s long-term plans, with the striker not currently viewed as a central figure in their squad for the upcoming season.
Reports indicate that discussions have already begun between Le Mans and Chelsea regarding a possible transfer during the summer window.
The player himself is understood to be open to continuing his career in France, with the opportunity for regular playing time seen as an important factor in his decision-making process.
Fofana, who previously played for Burnley, is still under contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2029. He reportedly earns an annual salary of €1.85 million, reflecting the long-term investment Chelsea made when signing him.
As talks develop, Le Mans will be hoping to secure a deal that would allow them to add a Premier League-trained striker to their squad, while Fofana looks to revive his momentum and establish himself more consistently at top-flight level.
