Lazio have confirmed the permanent signing of wing-back Nuno Tavares from Arsenal following a successful loan spell in Rome during the 2024–25 season.
The 25-year-old, who was born in Portugal and is of Cape Verdean descent, impressed under coach Marco Baroni after joining the Serie A club on loan last summer.
His performances convinced Lazio to activate a permanent deal, bringing his three-year association with Arsenal to an end.
Tavares has signed a contract that will keep him at the Stadio Olimpico until June 30, 2029.
The Italian club announced the deal in an official statement on Wednesday, stating: “S.S. Lazio announces that it has definitively registered the player Nuno Albertino Varela Tavares, coming from Arsenal F.C.
“The player has signed an employment contract until 30 June 2029.”
Initially brought to Arsenal from Benfica in 2021, Tavares made 28 appearances in all competitions during his debut season in North London.
However, he struggled to cement a regular starting role under Mikel Arteta and was subsequently loaned out to Marseille and then to Lazio.
At Lazio, he regained consistency and contributed both defensively and offensively in Baroni’s system, featuring regularly in the club’s domestic and European campaigns.
His athleticism, crossing ability and versatility on the flanks have made him a valuable asset as the Biancocelesti look to rebuild after finishing outside the Champions League places.
The move marks the latest in a series of squad changes for Arsenal, who are reshaping their roster ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.
