Group A of the Egyptian Capital Cup took a dramatic turn after wins for Al Mokawloon Al Arab and Ghazl El Mahalla tightened the race for the quarter-finals and left Al Ahly with only one path to progress.
Al Mokawloon claimed a 2-1 home victory over Enppi, with Ugandan forward Joachim Ogira scoring in the second and 69th minutes. Enppi briefly levelled through Ahmed El Agouz from the penalty spot, but Ogira’s late goal sealed the win.
Ghazl El Mahalla also collected three points after beating Ceramica Cleopatra 1-0. Ashraf Magdy struck in the 68th minute against a Ceramica side that featured mostly young players.
Earlier, Al Ahly had beaten Pharco 4-1, but the latest results pushed them down to sixth place on six points. Tala’ea El Gaish lead the group with 10 points, followed by Enppi on nine and Pharco on goal difference.
Al Ahly must beat Tala’ea El Gaish to reach nine points. They also need Ceramica Cleopatra to defeat Al Mokawloon and for Enppi to avoid losing to Ghazl El Mahalla.
