Harrogate Town’s hopes of securing a point at Stadium MK were dashed in heartbreaking fashion as Alex Gilbey’s stoppage-time strike sealed a 2-1 victory for Milton Keynes Dons in League Two action.
Trailing for most of the match after Joe White’s composed 28th-minute finish, Harrogate battled hard but struggled to convert their attacking intent into clear-cut chances. However, substitute Zico Asare, introduced in the 80th minute, looked to have salvaged a dramatic late equalizer, rifling home a stunning right-footed shot into the top corner in the 92nd minute following a corner.
The visitors’ celebrations were short-lived, though, as MK Dons responded swiftly. Just two minutes later, Callum Hendry teed up Gilbey, who unleashed a thunderous strike from distance to snatch all three points for the hosts.
The result sees MK Dons extend their superior head-to-head record against Harrogate, now with three wins to their name. Meanwhile, Harrogate will rue their missed opportunities and the cruel twist of fate that denied them a hard-earned point.
