Lamine Yamal, one of Barcelona’s brightest young talents, has openly backed a potential move for Nico Williams to the Catalan giants.
Yamal, who has Moroccan and Equatorial Guinean heritage, shares a close bond with Williams from their time together in the Spanish national team.
He believes the Athletic Club winger would be an excellent addition to Barca’s attacking options, praising his speed, technical skill, and work ethic.
Williams, whose parents hail from Ghana, has also caught the eye with his direct style of play and ability to stretch defenses, traits that align well with Barcelona’s attacking philosophy.
Yamal has reportedly highlighted the positive impact Williams could have on the Blaugrana dressing room, noting that his presence would strengthen the team’s camaraderie and attacking depth.
The 17-year-old forward has often spoken about the natural connection he shares with Williams on the pitch, making him an ideal candidate for a high-pressing, quick-transition system like that employed by Barcelona.
However, despite Yamal’s enthusiastic support, the prospect of Williams donning the famous Barcelona jersey seems unlikely under the current club administration.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has firmly ruled out a move for the 22-year-old, citing Williams’ decision to remain at Athletic Club last summer as a show of disinterest in the Blaugrana project.
According to El Nacional, Laporta views Williams’ choice as a sign of divided loyalty, a stance that has reportedly led him to dismiss any future approaches for the player.
Instead, the club is now exploring alternative wing options, including Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, both of whom offer different but potentially valuable skill sets.
