Lamini Fati set for Real Madrid breakthrough opportunity

Real Madrid could hand 19-year-old defender Lamini Fati his first senior call-up ahead of their La Liga trip to Celta Vigo, as injuries and suspensions hit the backline.

With Eder Militao and David Alaba sidelined and Dean Huijsen suspended, the door has opened for the highly rated Castilla talent to step into the spotlight.

Fati, a left-footed centre-back, has stood out for his physical presence, recovery pace and composure on the ball with Real Madrid Castilla. Born in Hortaleza, he came through the ranks at Unión Adarve and Leganes’ reserves before joining Real Madrid’s Juvenil A side in January 2025, quickly earning promotion to the club’s B team.

Coaches see him as a defender with big potential, even if aspects such as positioning and managing the defensive line are still being refined.

A first senior call-up would mark a major milestone in his development and underline the club’s growing trust in him at a time when Carlo Ancelotti needs fresh solutions in defence.
