Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal is drawing praise for his early displays, but not everyone is convinced he’ll match the greatness of football’s elite.
Former Real Madrid boss Fabio Capello has offered a measured take on the comparisons between Yamal and legendary figures Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona.
Capello, known for his blunt honesty, shared that while Yamal’s future looks bright, placing him alongside the Argentine icons is a step too far.
“I don’t think Lamine Yamal can reach Messi or Maradona because they had immense brilliance,” Capello said.
“He will be a star in the future, he could win a Ballon d’Or, all that, but he doesn’t have the genius that those two had.”
Yamal has dazzled fans with his composure and skill at just 17, quickly becoming one of Barcelona’s most talked-about players. His rise has naturally sparked comparisons to Messi’s early years at the club. But for Capello, the spark is there just not the same fire.
