Lamine Yamal responds after Barcelona miss out on Copa del Rey final
Lamine Yamal has spoken for the first time after FC Barcelona were knocked out of the Copa del Rey semi-final by Atlético Madrid.
Despite Barcelona’s elimination, the young winger delivered another impressive display, further underlining his growing reputation as one of the most exciting talents in world football.
Barcelona secured a 3-0 victory in the second leg, but it was not enough to overturn the heavy defeat they suffered in the first meeting. Atletico Madrid had already built a commanding advantage with a 4-0 win at home, allowing them to progress to the final with a 4-3 aggregate score.
The Catalan side’s goals came through Marc Bernal, who scored twice in the 29th and 72nd minutes, while Raphinha added the third just before halftime, converting a penalty in the 45+5 minute.
Barcelona pushed hard for a fourth goal that would have drawn the tie level on aggregate, but the comeback ultimately fell short.
After taking some time to reflect on the result, Yamal joined several of his teammates in addressing supporters on social media, thanking them for their unwavering backing during the match.
Writing on Instagram, Yamal said: “Thank you for last night, Barcelona fans. We have a lot of exciting things to come. Long live Barcelona forever.”
After the Copa del Rey exit, Barcelona are now keen on winning the La Liga and UEFA Champions League titles at the end of the season.
