Lamine Yamal reaffirms ‘Barcelona is the best club in the world’ after new deal and number 10
Lamine Yamal has declared his unwavering commitment to Barcelona after being handed the iconic No.10 shirt and signing a new long-term contract with the club.
Speaking after the announcement, the Spanish-Moroccan winger reiterated his belief that Barcelona remains “the best club in the world.”
The 18-year-old, who recently turned 18 this week, finalised a contract extension that ties him to the Catalan side until 2031.
As part of the celebrations, Yamal was officially confirmed as the club’s new No.10, a jersey previously worn by Ansu Fati and Lionel Messi—two figures whose legacies still loom large at Camp Nou.
Speaking to the club’s media channels, Yamal dismissed any notion of pressure associated with the famous shirt.
“I think the renewal means that I’ll stay at the club of my life, I’ll continue enjoying myself and winning, because I’m at the best club in the world,” he said.
“I don’t feel pressure; I’m at the best club in the world.”
Yamal, whose roots trace back to Morocco through his father and Equatorial Guinea through his mother, was also asked about the significance of taking over such a symbolic number.
“(Lionel) Messi has made his way, I’m going to make mine, and the ’10’ comes from Ansu anyway. I’ll try to make my way,” he added, underscoring his intent to carve out his own legacy.
When quizzed on Hansi Flick’s reaction to the announcement, the teenager responded with a laugh: “He told me there’s a double session tomorrow. He congratulated me and told me to go to bed early. My teammates congratulated me.”
