Former England forward, Gary Lineker, has crowned Spanish forward of Moroccan descent, Lamine Yamal, as the successor to Argentine great Lionel Messi.
According to him, the FC Barcelona star is the chosen one to be the face of world football, following in the footsteps of Pele, Maradona, and Messi.
“He’s the next chosen one. I think so. I think you go Pele, Maradona, Messi, and, I don’t want to put too much pressure on him, and I am, but he’s next. I’ve never seen anything like it at his age. The stuff he does is absurd,” Gary Lineker said while speaking on The Rest is Football podcast.
Lamine Yamal, 17, has been in sensational form since debuting for the FC Barcelona senior team.
Although still a teenager, he has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in world football.
Having already helped Spain to win the European Championship, he has set his sights on winning the World Cup as well.
At Barcelona, Yamal could win the treble this season, a feat that will make him a strong candidate to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or award.
