Spain forward of Moroccan descent, Lamine Yamal, is reportedly disappointed that he will not become teammates with Athletic Club’s Nico Williams next season.
This comes after Barcelona dropped its pursuit to sign the Spanish-Ghanaian heading into the summer transfer window.
Yamal had been eager for the chance to link up with his close friend at club level and believed Williams’ playing style would suit Barcelona perfectly.
However, reports from Spain suggest that Barcelona has decided to shift its transfer focus away from Williams. Instead, the Catalan club is prioritising reinforcements at left-back and in midfield, a decision largely influenced by ongoing financial constraints.
Although Nico Williams has a release clause exceeding €60 million, Barcelona’s current strategy and the existing competition for wing positions, including the presence of Raphinha, have made the deal unlikely for now.
Sources close to Lamine Yamal say the teenager was hit hard by the news but understands the club’s financial limitations and the direction of its transfer plans.
Despite the disappointment, Yamal hopes that he can play on the same team at the club level with Nico Williams in the future.
