Lamine Sané has been appointed as the new assistant coach of Bourges FC in France’s National 2.
The Senegalese football legend, who enjoyed a distinguished international and club career, will now support Romain Revelli, who was recently appointed head coach following the departure of Walid Achour.
Bourges FC officially confirmed Sané’s arrival via its social media channels, expressing confidence in the value his experience will bring to the club.
His international experience and deep understanding of football will be invaluable assets for our team,” the club stated.
Sané’s appointment is expected to enhance Bourges FC’s sporting ambitions, as the club looks to leverage his expertise in building a successful future.
At 36 years old, Sané brings a wealth of experience to his new coaching role.
He earned 35 caps for the Senegal national team, representing his country in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012 and 2015.
His solid international career is expected to provide the necessary foundation for his transition into coaching, where he aims to nurture and develop new talents.
Sané’s coaching journey began after he obtained his UEFA A coaching diploma.
His first steps into management came with the Lormont club (Regional 1), followed by a stint with FC Libourne’s reserve team in Regional 2 during the 2023-2024 season.
Under his guidance, Libourne had a standout season, finishing in second place, demonstrating his ability to build competitive teams.
Most recently, Sané joined the technical staff of the Senegal U17 national team as an assistant coach.
His contribution was pivotal in helping the team qualify for the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations, further solidifying his credentials as a promising coaching talent.
Born in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, France, on March 22, 1987, Sané holds both French and Senegalese nationality.
As a player, he is perhaps best known for his time with the Girondins de Bordeaux, where he made 240 appearances and won the Coupe de France in 2013.
Sané also had stints at Werder Bremen in Germany, Orlando City in the United States, and FC Utrecht in the Netherlands before retiring from playing in 2020.
His arrival at Bourges FC marks a new chapter in his career, with the club hoping his footballing wisdom will help guide them to new heights in the National 2 division.
