La Liga calling: Rayo Vallecano take Genk defender Mujaid Sadick on loan

Spain-Nigeria defender Mujaid Sadick has joined Rayo Vallecano from Belgian club Genk on loan, bringing the 26-year-old centre-back to La Liga for the 2026-27 season.

Sadick’s move was completed on 1 September, with the defender switching from the Jupiler Pro League to Spain’s top flight. The agreement runs until 30 June 2027, when he is scheduled to return to Genk.

The 1.83m right-footed defender began the campaign with Genk but had not made an appearance in the Jupiler Pro League before moving to Madrid. He had also not started a match or recorded a goal or assist in the competition during the opening four possible games of the season.

Sadick joined Genk from Deportivo La Coruna in July 2021 in a €1.7m transfer. He had developed in Spain before that move, progressing from Deportivo’s reserve side after beginning his youth career with Deportivo’s under-19 team.

Born in Logrono, Sadick has Spanish and Nigerian nationality. His arrival gives Rayo a centre-back who has experience of football in both Spain and Belgium, while Genk retain his registration beyond the current campaign.

Rayo Vallecano’s new defender has a market value of €5m and previously reached a career-high valuation of €8m. His immediate task is to establish himself in a Rayo squad competing in La Liga after making the switch from Belgian football.

Sadick’s loan to Rayo Vallecano is complete and is scheduled to run until 30 June 2027.
