Olympique de Marseille acknowledges that it is not playing in the same financial league as PSG and AS Monaco during the summer transfer window. Alaixys Romao puts it into perspective, stating, “Compared to the money they are investing in this transfer window, it is normal that we talk more about them than about us. But good for us.” Despite the difference in financial power, the Marseille club, currently in Italy for a pre-season training course, remains determined and optimistic.
The Togolese defensive midfielder believes that OM has the means to challenge the two big favorites of the championship. Romao states, “We will have the opportunity to create a surprise like that! Maybe they are above us in terms of the stars they have. But afterward, it’s up to us to raise our level of play to be at the same level and try to compete with all the teams who want to win the championship.”
As OM prepares for its first official match scheduled for August 11 against Guingamp, the team has recorded two defeats, a draw, and a victory in its preparation matches. Two more test matches are on the agenda in Italy before the start of the season.
