France forward of Cameroonian descent, Kylian Mbappe scored a sensational hat-trick on Sunday, but it was not enough to save Real Madrid from a 4-3 defeat to FC Barcelona in the Spanish La Liga.
The forward started the crucial encounter for Los Blancos and scored from the spot after just five minutes into the first half.
He doubled the lead for Real Madrid in the 14th minute after he was set up by Vinicius Jr to complete a first-half brace.
Unfortunately, the visitors could not defend the lead and paid for it even before the break.
A brace from Raphinha and a goal each by Lamine Yamal and Eric Garcia turned things around for FC Barcelona before halftime, giving the league leaders a comfortable 4-2 lead.
After the break, Barcelona continued to dominate the contest but could not add to their goals.
In the 70th minute, Vinicius Jr set up Kylian Mbappe for his third of the matchday, sealing a hat-trick for himself.
Despite the individual masterclass, Real Madrid lost 4-3 at full-time, leaving them with just a slim chance of winning the league.
