France striker of Cameroonian descent, Kylian Mbappe, scored his 41st goal of the season in all competitions for Real Madrid on Sunday evening when the team defeated Sevilla 1-0 in the Spanish La Liga.
His latest goal also brings his La Liga tally to 29 goals, placing him second in the race for the European Golden Boot with 58 points.
Currently leading the Golden Boot standings is Viktor Gyökeres, who finished the season with 39 goals for Sporting CP, earning 58.5 points.
However, with one league match remaining against Real Sociedad, Kylian Mbappe has a chance to overtake the Swedish forward.
Since La Liga goals are weighted with a 2x multiplier, just one more goal would move Mbappe into the lead.
The 25-year-old has made an immediate impact at the Santiago Bernabéu, and his remarkable debut campaign could yet end with individual silverware.
Unfortnately, his unstoppable form in front of goal could not lead Real Madrid to win La Liga or the Uefa Champions League.
He will hope to win both trophies next season.
